Things that weren't meant to be

Yesterday we took in another Beagle. A girl this time, known as Millie, and about 1 and a half. She was the sweetest thing! Her and Oscar got on really well, there was lots of playing, lots of chasing, and lots of bowls of water!

She has zero training. She has never been in a house and isn't housetrained and she knows no basic commands. She was also pretty noise sensitive. Any loud-ish noise and she would run and cower away. She isn't great on the lead either. And while she is good with kids and dogs, she wasn't too comfortable with my Dad. She was also in heat! That didn't seem to cause any problems though, there was a little mounting on Oscars part but she wasn't slow to tell him off.

For a dog that isn't housetrained she went the whole night without an accident and today she was in, basically all day, without any accidents either.

The only problem was that only 4 hours into her stay with us, she climbed the fence and made a run for it to the neighbours garden! At that point the decision was made that we couldn't keep her. Its obviously sensible, if we can't keep her in the garden then she can't stay, but I'm devastated! She was so sweet, and while she was a little unsettled and unsure she bonded to me! She wouldn't go outside with my brother unless I went out too and she also took to following me about around the house.
She was smart too! In 5 minutes she had basically gotten the hang of 'sit' and she learned after only 1 meal that in order for the bowl to be put down she had to sit first.
She wasn't great on the lead but after 10 minutes she slowed down and stopped pulling so much.

For 21 hours we were a two dog household but now, now, we are a one dog household again! :-(
Oscar seems confused and maybe even a little sad that Millie is gone! Millie seemed happy to see her owner again though. I think she missed the kids more than anything else.
You could see that she wasn't well cared for though. Her coat was rough, dirty, smelly and her ears needed a clean, along with her eyes and her nails needed to be clipped. Getting her spayed wouldn't do her any harm either, especially since she is a Houdini dog!

It is such a pity that it didn't work out! If she hadn't escaped then she would still be here right now. If only we had a better fence, a proper wooden one! Why is my garden so big? And why are fence panels so expensive?

Life sucks, but maybe it wasn't meant to be. Maybe we could try again later (doubtful), with a different dog.

A taste if town life

Oscar came in to my grandparents with us today for lunch. It's been a little while since he has properly been for a walk in town.
As promised yesterday by the news, it rained today. And it is currently raining now. But it was surprisingly warm out and earlier today it was fairly dry and warm. Warm enough for me to actually go home and change into 3/4 length trousers!

Lunch was pretty nice. Oscar did some begging (bold dog!) and ended up with some bits of raw chicken!

We even brought little Buddy with us today too! Oscar carried him in with him,

Oscar's collar is a little big on him, as you can see in the photo! Speaking of collars, I'm still waiting for his Pacman collar to arrive! It was sent last Thursday, and I was told it should arrive early this week but I expected it to be here yesterday, or today. Hopefully it will get here tomorrow then because I am getting a little impatient now. Why did I decide to get the slider name tag on it? If I hadn't then it would have been here by now, but then again, the slider tag will look so cool! And I won't have to move the tags over every time I switch collars, so it will be worth it!

Oscar got a little carried away with the exploring of my grandparents house. He went in to every room, the bathroom, the sitting room, my room, the kitchen and so on. He is a very nosey dog (literally, his nose is his life!)

The problem with my grandparents house is that they have no fence outside. It means that Oscar can't go outside off leash or on his own because he could run out on to the road and get squashed by a car! And I would rather keep him alive and well thank you very much!
After lunch I went home and got changed into less heavy clothing and when I got back I took Oscar for a walk with my nan and brother out to the graveyard at the other side of town. It was a nice walk, but it's clear that Oscar isn't used to walking in town because it was a mixture of stopping and starting and him following his nose everywhere! He was relatively good though!
And we're off
Waiting outside the shop
Smile for the Camera!
He got a little muddled up!

We got back an hour later, but I had to go into town to get some food for him so my nan walked him back home with her. I arrived back to see him lying in his bed. He was obviously a little tired from all the walking and sniffing. I gave him a carrot for a little chew,

But he clearly got fed up of the carrot and left half of it to go down into the conservatory and have a snooze on the soft mat in the sun,

He spent the next hour asleep down there and I explored the interweb on the horribly slow computer in the sitting room! Then it was time to go home, which entailed yet another car ride! He is never too happy in the car and always looks so confused but it was the car ride or he stayed with nanny!

Car ride it was!
We left poor buddy there though. Oscar doesn't seem to care, maybe they aren't as close as it seems!

He had his first Turkey Drumstick today. It was huge (for a small fellow like himself) and I thought it would take him a little longer to eat than usual, but no, in no more than 7 minutes it was gone and he was licking the grass to make sure he got all of it.

He is Home!

Oscar came back from the Boarding Kennels yesterday. He had a nice week long holiday, and luckily for him the weather was great for it too. My parents are still in Florida and will be until Wednesday. This year, my Brother and I had to stay at home with my grandparents, but my uncle is here now so we are back at out house, not my grandparents.

I've been trying to get photos off my phone and onto the laptop but it just doesn't want to do it. I've tried using Facebook and gmail, but they just don't want to leave! I can't even get them on to an SD card, so you may all go without the photos of Oscar on the way back home and the small walk in town I'm afraid!

Because the weather has been really nice recently (sunny and hot in Ireland, rain and tropical storms in Florida! Lol ), I finally got around to getting Oscar a little pool from my Nan's. It's only a little hard, plastic shell one, but it will do the job nicely. However, today it is raining, so its use was short lived! I do hope it gets sunny again by Wednesday!

What? I have to get in?
Happy now? I'm in!
Ahhh, wet....must SHAKE!!!
Handsome fellow indeed!
Burger, for me? Come back, don't float away!!!
Handsome, and Cheeky!
Taking the plunge into the deeper section
Looking for sunken treasure!
I don't think that Oscar is too keen about his little pool, but he seems OK with walking in and out of it. For a nice treat though! I've even got him doing his 'bubbles' trick in there and, if nothing else, he like to drink from it. Hopefully, over time, he will warm to the idea of it. Weather permitting, for all I know the Irish Summer ended yesterday!

The Horses are now out of two of the fields that we walk in and the grass is getting a little long now too so that's great! There are still some horses in some of the fields but as long as we have one or two then all is well. It was one of the first things we did when we got home, go for a walk that is! The pictures aren't great and I got a little fed up of doing it, so I kind of gave up with them for a while. Here is what I got anyway,
We started on a long line....
.....Then I was leashed and Oscar was free!
Unexpected visitors
Beautiful!
Sulking because I'm talking to horses, not him!
Real, off leash freedom!
The stream has really dried up recently
Ever feel like you're being followed?
On the way home

We were up in Dublin today and I got to go to a pet shop that stocks some raw food! I've been waiting to go there for weeks and I finally got to go! We brought a large freezer box with us so that we could avoid smelly raw meat in a hot car all the way back from Dublin and I filled it with food! I got one 2kg bag of minced tripe (Prize Choice), 3 bags of Natures Menu raw nuggets and a Prize choice Rabbit Dinner block (I would have gotten more but there was only one). I also got 2 pouches on Natures menu wet food which I will use in kongs and maybe some homemade treats.(I'll be baking tomorrow!)  All the food was less than €25 which I think is pretty good. It's a pity they had no bones, I would have liked some decent ones, oh well. I got a new nail clipper for Oscar too, I'm sure he will love that......
I was supposed to get some seaweed and kelp supplements though, but I totally forgot about them. I also forgot to get a finger toothbrush, but that's not the end of the world.
We also went to Ikea. It was heaven!!!!! When I get a house, EVERYTHING is coming from Ikea! All it is missing is a pet section.

I've been looking into adding another dog to the clan for a while now and today I finally got around to buying one! He is a Beagle just like Oscar, and they get on extremely well. Say hello to Oscar's new friend, Buddy!

Friends forever!!!
Cute, ehhh?
Yawn.....
We're trying to sleep, please go away!

He still has little Buddy with him. Carries him around the place, even took him out to the garden to his little pool and almost on a walk! They are made for each other! Buddy is here with thanks to Ikea! ( I did say they had everything, didn't I?)

I think Oscar is happy to be home! He is currently snoring his head off as I watch 'The Dark Knight' with my uncle. I have a little obsession with Batman at the moment! I cannot wait for my parents to come back, I'm getting Batman converse!!!!

Oscar's new pacman collar should arrive tomorrow! (it's a little later that I had hoped but the name tag took a while to arrive to the maker) I cant wait to get it!
